The College Transfer Process

Entrance College Building

Each year, students transfer between colleges for a variety of reasons.  Maybe you are thinking of a college transfer because you are unhappy with the college you are attending and you just need a change.  Or maybe you have chosen a major that another college specializes in and you feel you would benefit more from attending and earning a degree there.

Transferring can be a good idea if the new school offers something your current school lacks and you feel it is worth the hassle of the change.  It is a good idea to just make sure there is a good reason to change because there can be a lot of work involved in the transfer.

If you are unhappy at one college or university, by all means, you can do a college transfer to another one.  There is no reason for you to settle for four years of misery.  There are so many different types of schools out there that you should be able to find one that fits your academic and social desires.  Some people transfer because the current school they are enrolled in doesn’t have a strong program in their major.

Duke University Review

Duke

Overview

Duke University, located in Durham, North Carolina, is one of the nation’s best known and best regarded universities. Initially founded by Methodists, the school is presently non-sectarian. While it is well known for its athletic programs (particularly its basketball program), the school is also recognized for its academics with its undergraduate program and most of its graduate programs ranked among the most elite institutions in US News and World Report. The university also features some of most recognizable and stunning collegiate architecture in the nation. Replete with Gregorian and Gothic style buildings, the campus spans over 8,000 acres and is home to two undergraduate schools and ten graduate schools making it one of the largest universities in the country.

College Campus Food

College Cafe Food

In the midst of prepping for class, sorting out differences with roommates, and staying up until 3 AM, students still need to remember to eat nutritious (or often not so nutritious) meals.

Campus food can vary from school to school, but it usually is mass produced, high in fat, and grows less popular with students as time goes by. Most campuses have one or two all you can eat cafeterias, which have different stations for different types of food (salads, pasta, meats, etc.) They also tend to have a couple of “to order” restaurants or bistros. Some may have a popular fast food chain or two as well.

College Internships

Internship

It has been said that some of the most important lessons you’ll learn in college will take place outside of the classroom. This is an apt description of the all important college internship.

Most employers consider a college internship to be one of the most important factors when hiring recent college graduates for entry level positions. This makes sense. After all, book learning and theory only go so far. Providing practical training to an employee costs time and money.

The college internship helps mitigate this cost. A good internship will provide the student with hands on experience in his or her chosen field.

Your College Dorm Room – Home Sweet Home

Dorm Room

When you go away to college as a freshman, it is likely that you will live on your own for the first time. Some people feel like the college dorm room is a temporary living place that they just have to tolerate for a while.  They don’t want to spend any time or money fixing it up and they almost despise it.

This can be a bad idea because after all, you will be living there and maybe even bringing your friends and dates there, and it would be nice and feel much better if you fixed it up and made like home.  It really can be made into a comfortable environment for you and your roommates.  It may just take a little creativity, effort and time, but will be worth it to help you enjoy being there.  Whatever your situation, there are some things you can do to help your dorm room feel like home sweet home.

Student Loan Debt: How Much is Reasonable?

College Fund Bank

As of 2011, good entry level jobs for recent graduates are hard to come by, and as a result, many college graduates are having a difficult time making their monthly student loan payments. This has forced plenty of young adults in their 20’s (and even older) to move back in with their parents, work multiple menial jobs, or even default on their loan obligations.

Undergraduate Business School Basics

Business Students

Should you choose to major in business in college? As a young college student you may be trying to figure out what your major will be.  There are so many options out there and everyone seems to have their own opinion and advice as to why this major or that one is not good and why this major or that one is the best option etc.

This can get very confusing and even frustrating.  It is a good idea to do some research and take a few classes to see if you have the aptitude for a certain major before you dive into it full force.  And to see if the particular major is something you are good at and that you like.  If you enjoy and are good at a certain field or major, it is much, much more likely you will be successful in completing a degree in that major.  This can be a very important factor.  One of the majors is business.  You can choose to attend business college.  There are many pros and cons to this type of school.
